Many of us have animals in our lives we care for deeply. They can feel our desire for their well-being as we hold them close and they are assured of our steadfast love. I thought of this as I painted. I also thought of the story of the Nativity, and this painting for me became this season’s prayer. My hope is that my painting will remind the viewer that God, like a devoted shepherd, will uphold us from birth to old age with a love that will never end.

it becomes a prayer.
The Christmas story captures my attention every year. I'd like to think the act of painting this special subject is an act of devotion, a form of prayer. Here the baby Jesus looks to the heavens with a special awareness of His situation.

An adoring Blessed Mary holds her precious infant with untold love. This new beginning will change the world. This child will grow to be a man and speak to all, “You don’t have to be afraid, God loves you.” Every Christmas we recall the story and think of Jesus in her arms and Jesus in our hearts.
